TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Helene continues to head quickly north through Georgia, our weather conditions improve. It will still be gusty today, but not many showers expected.

Surge waters slowly recede after the morning high tide, but it will take time because the wind direction is still coming from the Gulf of Mexico.

Many areas reached record high water levels across the Tampa Bay area. Some exceeding the previous record by 2-3 feet.

While the wind will be lower this weekend, the rain chances increase. Off and on rain expected Saturday and Sunday. These downpours could enhance any existing flooding, but it will also hamper debris clean up.

Some drier days expected early next week.
