TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Local airports have started to reopen on Friday, less than 12 hours after Hurricane Helene made landfall Thursday evening in the Big Bend Region.

Tampa International (TPA) reopened around 9:30 a.m., while St. Pete Clearwater (PIE) airport reopened at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

TPA officials said the airport suffered no major damage.

According to the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport website, SRQ is open as well.

While the airports have reopened, delays and cancellations should be expected as airlines work to update schedules due to Helene.

In a 9 a.m. press conference, Gov. DeSantis said officials anticipated Tampa International and St. Pete Clearwater airports to open sometime Friday. Tallahassee International is hopeful to reopen, despite their near-direct hit.

Passengers are encouraged to check with their airline regarding their specific flights.
