TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Hurricane Hunters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration captured video of their flight into the eyewall of Hurricane Helene.

The video shows the cockpit of their aircraft shaking as they ended the eye of the storm on Thursday, Sept. 26, to gather “crucial data” about the storm just before it made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region.

Hurricane Helene ravages the Southeast, killing at least 25 and leaving millions without power

According to NOAA, the crew entered the storm using two Lockheed WP-3D Orion four-engine turboprop aircraft, nicknamed “Kermit” (N42RF) and “Miss Piggy” (N43RF), to monitor changes in wind and pressure.

The video shows the flight crew of “Kermit.”
