HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A 24-year-old Brooksville man was seriously injured after he crashed into a truck hauling logs in Hernando County early Thursday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Brooksville man was driving west on State Road 50 around 6:50 a.m. At the same time, a tractor-trailer log truck, driven by a 56-year-old Leesburg man, was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Emerson Road.

As the light turned green, the Leesburg man began to accelerate — that’s when the 24-year-old “overtook and collided with the load of logs despite the presence of flags and amber warning lights,” FHP said.
