    Small plane crashed in swamp area near Fort Island Trail Park, deputies say

    CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A small plane crashed into a swamp area near Fort Island Trail Park, known locally as the Halfway Boat ramp, in Crystal River Tuesday.

    According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a twin-engine Beechcraft B55 Baron crashed around 5:45 p.m. The pilot was the only one on board.

    The FAA, along with the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

    The pilot’s condition is unknown at this time.

    There is an increased law enforcement presence in the area. Officials are asking civilians to avoid the area as they conduct their investigation.
