‘I have nowhere else to go’: Senior residents living in unsafe conditions after Helene

HUDSON, Fla. (WFLA) — Frustrations are growing at a mobile home park in Pasco County, where seniors who live there, are fighting to stay.

Despite there being no power or running water, the residents are now asking county officials for help.

Senior residents said they are fighting to stay in their homes after Hurricane Helene damaged them.

Daniel Davis who lives in a mobile home park on Maryland Avenue is one of them.

“I am kind of staying here because I got nowhere else to go, I got a tent in case it gets too hot,” Davis told WFLA.

A similar problem is next door to him in the Gulf Breeze Senior Mobile Home Park. The storm left residents in unlivable conditions.

“No, we have to work with this trailer, we will do the best we can with it, and we just replaced the roof,” resident Dianne Piles said.

Orange stickers that read “Unsafe,” “Do not occupy,” and “Enter at your own risk,” marked the majority of the homes in the neighborhood.

“Give me time to get out, don’t keep coming in here telling me you’re going to evict us,” resident Rhonda Farley said. “Stop, we already have enough on our minds.”

Now residents said they are frustrated by the lack of communication from County Commissioners— unsure if they should repair their homes or leave.

“Fix it. Come in here and tell me what you are going to do because if I spend money to fix this up…because it is fixable, why would I? If they are going to condemn the whole park?” Farley added.

At this time, county officials said homes inside the neighborhood have not been condemned. Although they have been marked unsafe, due to the conditions. They are hoping residents consider their safety first.
