Manatee County issues mandatory evacuations, opens shelters

BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — Manatee County officials give updates on the potential impacts of Hurricane Milton.

Beginning at 2 p.m. zones A, B, and C, along with mobile homes and manufactured homes, are under mandatory evacuation zones .

Shelters are open at the following schools:

• Jessie P. Miller Elementary (601 43rd St W, Bradenton)
• Gullett Elementary (12125 44th Ave E, Bradenton)
• Harvey Elementary (8610 115th Ave E, Parrish)
• McNeal Elementary (6325 Lorraine Rd, Bradenton)
• Mills Elementary (7200 69th St E, Palmetto)
• Myakka City Elementary (37205 Manatee Ave, Myakka City)
• Jain Middle (12205 44th Ave E, Bradenton)
• Sugg Middle (5602 38th Ave W, Bradenton)

Manatee County Transit will operate Tuesday, as long as they can, for trasnportation to shelters. Trasnport from the islands will be at the top of the hour, until nightfall. Residents can be picked up from the CVS located at 611 Manatee Avenue, Holmes Beach.

The county’s Public Safety Director, Jodie Fiske was joined by local leaders at the Manatee County Public Safety Center in Bradenton.

Fiske said they expects 8 to 12 feet of storm surge in parts of the county. Manatee County utilities is scheduling a water shut off for Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach, and Longboat Key starting Tuesday at 10 a.m.
