TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa police are investigating a woman’s death that appeared to be related to Hurricane Milton.

According to a release, officers were called to North Nebraska Avenue at around 11 a.m. after a large tree branch collapsed in the area.

When they got there, officers found a woman in her early 70s under the branch. She was already dead when the officers arrived.

Investigators said that it appears that reconstruction efforts were being done in the area when the branch fell on the victim. So far, the death appears to be an accident.

“Although the storm has passed, its devastation has tragically taken the life of one of our community members,” Chief Lee Bercaw said. “Our thoughts are with the family as they grieve their loved one.”

Officers will release more information as the investigation continues.
