ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — As St. Pete Beach residents start to repair their homes after hurricanes Helene and Milton, the city shared information about the type of work that does not require a permit to complete.

The following work does not need to be permitted:

    • Placement of a temporary shelter, like an RV or trailer; however, a temporary shelter placement permit must be submitted to the building department prior to shelter placement. A building permit is also required for temporary power and sewer connection.
    • Removal of drywall and insulation, carpet and flooring.
    • Painting.
    • Replacement of carpet over finished flooring.
    • Emergency temporary application of tarps to structures to reduce risk of further water intrusion.
    • Removal of washed-up debris on a property.
    • Asphalt roof shingle replacement of less than 1 square of shingles (10ft x 10ft area, or less), provided the secondary water barrier and/or sheathing does not require repair.
    • Repair of minor water leaks that do not involve the reduction or extension of structural, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical systems.

The emergency permitting period runs through March 29, 2025.

The City of St. Pete Beach’s permitting portal can be accessed through iWorq . For more information, residents can call the Community Development Department at (727) 363-9241 or visit the city’s emergency permitting website .
