TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An attempt to serve a warrant led to the closure of I-275 in Tampa on Thursday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

On Thursday, law enforcement officials attempted to serve a warrant for a case involving Thomas Edward Sapp, 31, who is facing charges of homicide after he allegedly stabbed his wife 30 times.

The prior night, Tampa police responded to the Trails at Hunters Village Apartments, located at 8500 Hunters Village Road.

They found the woman with multiple injuries and “significant blood loss.” She was taken to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert and is currently in stable condition.

Officials said Sapp was spotted near County Line Road over I-275 in his vehicle. As authorities worked to stop traffic, Sapp jumped over the overpass, landing on the interstate, and nearly got struck by a passing semi-truck.

The suspect suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

    This remains an active investigation.
