Citrus County sees rising water levels and flooding

HERNANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office monitors the rising levels of the Withlacoochee River and the bodies of water connected to it.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission closed portions of the Withlacoochee River.

There are numerous roads in the area that are starting to flood and could close as the water levels continue to rise.

CCSO asked the community to stay out of the area unless you reside there.

Flooded streets in Citrus County are:

• 5830 East River Road to 6401 East River Road
• East Crane Court
• North Curls Point
• East Channel Drive from North Mound Drive
• 6744 East Channel Drive to 6589 East Channel Drive
• East Duffy Court
• North Broken Arrow Trail
• North Heidi Drive and North Nature Trail
• 6615 North Heidi Drive
• The lock at the end of North Nature Trail is closed
• East Riverside Drive, off C-39

A curfew is in effect from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. that prohibits travel north of C-39 from Highway 200 to Highway 41 and all travel east of Highway 200 from Marion County line south to Posselt Drive and east of North Nature Trail, according to CCSO.

Boat ramps are closed due to rising water levels at the Withlacoochee River at this time.

The boat ramps that are closed are:

• Dunnellon: Goldendale Avenue, 12199 North Goldendale Avenue
• Dunnellon: Spruce Drive, 4863 East Spruce Drive
• Floral City: Trails End, 12300 East Trails End Road
• Floral City, Withlapopka, 10851 East Gobbler Drive
• Inverness: Turner Camp Road, 9460 East Turner Camp Road

CCSO advises residents to use caution around bodies of water in Citrus County that are influenced by the river.
