LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — On this National Dog Day, we would like to introduce you to Chester, an 8-year-old pittie who has been waiting for his forever family to adopt him.

According to staff, it has been more than a year since Chester arrived at SPCA Florida in Lakeland.

“Our shelter is pretty awesome, the animals are treated extremely well, but the shelter is not a home,” SPCA Florida Humane Programs and Public Media Director Randa Richter said. “We would love to find that home for him.”

Richter also said Chester would do well in a family with older children.

“He likes to play a little rough,” she said. “Also, a situation where there’s a backyard, where he can run and play.”

If you are interested in adopting Chester, check out his profile online.

For the next two weeks, News Channel 8 is partnering with NBC and dozens of local shelters for the ‘Clear the Shelters’ campaign.

Adoption fees at SPCA Florida and other rescues will be reduced or waived up until Sept. 10.

SPCA Florida is open daily for adoptions and walk-ins are welcome.
