A 12-year-old Texas cheerleader died Monday, four days after she suffered mysterious “life-threatening” injuries that her parents tried to treat with smoothies and vitamins, authorities announced Wednesday. 

Jourdanton Junior High School student Miranda Sipps died in the hospital Monday night after her mother finally called for help when the preteen went into respiratory distress, the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office said.

The girl’s mother, Denise Balbaneda, and stepfather, Gerald Gonzalez, 40, were arrested for failing to seek medical help sooner for the girl during the four days while she was “mentally and physically incapacitated and non-responsive,” the sheriff said.

A man is accused of fatally stabbing his 74-year-old mom and wounding his dad after he was told he could stay at their Ohio home, according to a report.Kenneth Mortimer, 40, was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and felonious assault in connection to the attack.On Friday, police in Hamilton County, Ohio, were called to a home. Authorities determined that Mortimer got into an argument with his mom, Barbara Mortimer, when she told him he could not stay overnight at the home, according to WXIX.The argument turned physical and Barbara asked her husband, Thomas, to call 911.That is when Kenneth Mortimer grabbed a knife from the kitchen and approached his parents sitting on the couch, according to the report. An Akron man was sentenced to 7½ years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to having and intending to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. 
                        Dion Dejournett, 29, also pleaded guilty in the Northern District of Ohio federal court to possession of firearms to further drug trafficking. 
                        Judge Bridget Meehan Brennan also sentenced Dejournett to five years of parole upon release. He also must give up all drug-related assets, including four pistols, a semi-automatic rifle and over $6,000.
