    Multiple pets rescued from Appleton duplex fire that caused an estimated $250K in damages

    APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – One resident was evaluated for smoke inhalation and multiple pets were rescued from an Appleton duplex early Friday morning after a fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damages.

    According to the Appleton Fire Department , initial reports of a fire at a home in the 3500 block of North Juanita Lane came in around 5:30 a.m. on October 11.

    When crews arrived, flames were seen coming from the garage of the duplex. Within 30 minutes of arrival, the fire was brought under control.

    It was noted that both homes of the duplex were evacuated and one resident was evaluated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters also rescued a dog, two birds, and a lizard from the scene; the dog was reportedly given oxygen during the incident.

    The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and authorities say that properly working smoke alarms were not going off when crews arrived.

    The damage to the duplex is estimated to be $250,000. No other details were provided.
