Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers visits Shawano to discuss $115 million in grants to fund community facilities

SHAWANO, Wis. (WFRV) – Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced on Monday that about $115 million in grants will be handed out to 35 communities to help fund community projects.

According to the release , the grants are through the Wisconsin Department of Administration’s Flexible Facilities Program . Funded through the U.S. Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund, the grants will fund expansion or improvement projects on facilities like libraries, community centers and multi-purpose community facilities.

On Thursday, Evers visited Shawano to meet with recipients of the grant and was joined by them along with local leaders and elected officials.

Among the grants given were $4,250,000 to the Village of Freemont. The funding will assist in the construction of a tri-county public library and community center, which could benefit over 2,000 people.

“We will have a senior center, a tech center, a teen center and an indoor children’s play place,” Freemont Library Director Melissa Krause said. “It’s not just the library, it’s a giant service area for people in this region.”

Gov. Evers spoke about the dedication that the library has to its community.

“I’m really glad that we’re able to provide the resources to try and meet their dreams,” Gov. Evers said.

There will also be other multipurpose rooms in the library for telemedicine and even remote work.
