ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Packers continued and subsequently wrapped up their week-long efforts to honor servicemembers during Military Appreciation Week with a pair of events on Friday.

One of the events was a continuation of a mental health training session with the Mark Divine Courage Foundation, which started on Thursday and continued from noon until 6 p.m. on Friday.

The other was the Salute to Service Tournament, a flag football competition between teams comprised of multiple military branches. It was held at Titletown Football Field and started around 9:30 a.m.

“It’s a competition but it’s also a big camaraderie event,” Packers Football Outreach Manager Ryan Fencl said. “Different branches are able to get together and swap stories while competing on the field.”

Fencl said it’s a community between the military branches, and this event brings that out.

“There’s that brother and sisterhood of being in the military together and they all have that in common, which not everybody does,” Fencl said. “It’s great for us to be able to show our appreciation for their service and their sacrifice.”

The tournament is in its 7th year, and while there are always new faces in attendance, plenty of familiar ones return each time.
