    Central Florida retail expands along I-4, forming a ‘metroplex’

    Brevard, Volusia and Lake counties may not immediately come to mind as among the hottest for retail development when considering the 10-county area that makes up the Interstate 4 corridor spanning the Tampa Bay region through Orlando to Daytona Beach.

    After all, the three counties combine for only about 20% of the corridor’s roughly 8 million people. Volusia and Lake counties, in particular, rank seventh and 10th among them by population.

    However, retail development patterns tell a different story — one with significant implications for Central Florida’s commercial real estate evolution that has one local expert saying the corridor is becoming “a metroplex of sorts,” after the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas.
