    George Washington High School principal announces his return to Franklin County

    DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR )– The principal of George Washington High School ( GW ) has announced that he will be leaving after the 2023-24 school year and returning to the F ranklin County School District .

    On Tuesday, March 12, Principal Reyhan Deskins shared that he will serve as the principal at Franklin County High School.

    Deskins first joined the GW Eagle family in 2022 and during his tenure, he has overseen major renovation projects, and improved engagement. He also focused on the student experience at the school.

    “Mr. Deskins has done wonderful work at George Washington High School for our students,” shared Danville Public Schools ( DPS ) Superintendent Dr. Angela Hairston “We appreciate his
    guidance, perseverance, and unyielding support of GW students. He will be missed by staff,
    administrators, and scholars alike.”

    Deskins graduated from Virginia Tech with his Master’s in Educational Leadership. During his administrative career, he has led the development of a Freshmen Academy, and formed a successful plan for reducing chronic absenteeism, He also oversaw the initial phase of the $80 million capital renovation project.

    “He has made a positive impact at GW, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” said School Board Chair Ty’Quan Graves.

    DPS said the position will be posted during the week and they are working with staff and families to discuss what they would like to see in the next leader of the Eagles.

    Principal Deskins will be succeeding Jon Crutchfield who is retiring at the end of the school year. He will start at Franklin County High School on July 1, 2024.
