    Power restored to hundreds in Danville after lightning strikes transformer

    UPDATE: 5/2 7:56 A.M. DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR ) — After lightning hit a substation transformer leaving more than 2,000 customers without power on April 30, Danville Utilities says service has been restored.

    Anyone still facing an outage is encouraged to call the outage hotline at 434-773-8300.



    UPDATE 11:23 P.M. DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR )– Danville Utilities crews are still working to restore power in the Axton and Cascade areas.

    They say crews are making progress in resolving the problem they ran into and power is expected to be restored overnight.

    They say the issue revolves around a breaker, but crews are currently working to resolve the outage.

    UPDATE 2:35 P.M. DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR )– Danville Utilities says that a mobile unit is on-site and has been connected. Crews are currently in the process of testing.

    Danville Utilities reports power is expected to be restored today during the late afternoon or early evening.

    UPDATE: 8:41 A.M. DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR ) — The City of Danville says about 2,000 customers remain in the dark after lightning hit a substation transformer on Tuesday night.

    Overnight, the city says Danville Utilities restored service to about 1,000 customers.

    We’re told service is expected to be restored by this evening.



    DANVILLE, Va. ( WFXR ) — Several customers across Danville are waking up in the dark after lightning hit a substation transformer on Tuesday night.

    Just before 10 p.m. on April 30, Danville Utilities said the transformer was inoperable. Since then, crews have been working to restore service for customers in the Brosville and Stony Mill areas by switching them to the Westover and Tunstall substations.

    However, this could take hours.

    The power company says customers in the Axton and Cascade areas will remain without service for most of Wednesday until crews can bring a mobile substation and make connections.
