Pinpoint Weather: Seasonably warm with stray showers

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — An area of high pressure over the Ohio Valley will result in mostly dry weather in Southwest and Central Virginia for the middle of the week. However, increasing rain chances are anticipated on Friday.

Pockets of dense fog may impact the Wednesday morning commute. Otherwise, mostly to partly sunny skies are slated for the day. Afternoon temperatures will reach the near-average lower and middle 80s. While much of the region will stay mainly dry, a few isolated rain showers cannot be ruled out.

Thursday will be much of the same. Morning lows will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s while afternoon temperatures will rise into the lower and middle 80s under a mix of sun and clouds. Stray rain showers are possible.

The chance of showers and storms will increase on Friday as a front approaches from the west. It won’t rain the entire day, but a couple of storms could pack a punch. Overall, there is a slightly higher chance of rain during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will be in the lower and middle 80s.

Showers and storms are expected on Saturday ahead of a cold front. Once the front passes through, rain chances will decrease. A few showers are possible on Sunday.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

Tropical Storm Ernesto will bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Wednesday. The storm will gradually strengthen as it moves northward, away from the islands. The National Hurricane Center expects Ernesto to become a hurricane later in the morning. The storm could become a major hurricane in a couple of days.
