Pinpoint Weather: Late-week showers and storms

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — Increasing rain chances are anticipated across Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday as a cold front approaches from the west. The potential for showers and storms will continue throughout the weekend.

While some morning mountain rain showers and storms are possible, there is a slightly greater chance for scattered showers and storms across the region during the afternoon and evening. Downpours may occur. Overall, it will be muggier for the day with temperatures rising into the lower and middle 80s under variably cloudy skies.

A cold front will move through Southwest and Central Virginia over the weekend. Showers and storms are possible on Saturday and Sunday, but it won’t be a complete washout. However, it’s important to stay weather-aware. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms may develop, capable of producing gusty winds. Highs will be in the 80s and lower 90s with humid air in place.

A few showers and storms may linger into Monday. Highs will be in the 70s and lower 80s. Drier weather is expected by the middle of the upcoming week.

Starting Tuesday, partly to mostly sunny skies will be overhead with highs in the slightly cooler-than-average 70s and lower 80s.

As of Friday morning, Ernesto is a category-two hurricane with winds of 100 mph. A Hurricane Warning has been issued for Bermuda, as the island is expected to experience hurricane-force winds, dangerous storm surge, and heavy rainfall. Dangerous surf is possible along the East Coast of the United States.
