    Pinpoint Weather: Few storms on Monday, drier pattern ahead

    ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — Showers and storms are possible on Monday, but drier weather is expected across Southwest and Central Virginia for much of the week ahead.

    Spotty showers will have the chance to develop west of the Blue Ridge on Monday morning. By the afternoon, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible across Southwest and Central Virginia. Not everyone will see rain, but storms could produce downpours. Otherwise, it will be a breezy day with a mix of sun and clouds overhead. Afternoon highs will be in the 70s and lower/middle 80s.

    Northwesterly flow will result in cooler-than-average temperatures and lower humidity levels for the next few days. Mostly to partly sunny skies will be over the region on Tuesday. Morning temperatures will start in the 50s and lower 60s before reaching the 70s and lower 80s by the afternoon.

    High pressure will take control for the next several days, leading to mostly dry conditions. Due to clear and calm conditions overnight, morning lows will be in the chilly 40s and 50s for Wednesday and Thursday. A good deal of sunshine is anticipated for both days with highs in the cooler-than-average 70s and lower 80s. Overall, pleasant weather is in the forecast for the middle of the week.

    The mainly dry weather pattern will persist into the weekend. However, slightly warmer temperatures are ahead. Highs will be in the 80s on Saturday and Sunday with gradually increasing humidity levels.

    Hurricane Ernesto is a category-one hurricane capable of producing maximum sustained winds up to 85 mph. The storm will continue over the North Atlantic for the next few days. Dangerous surf conditions will persist along the East Coast.
