ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — A few showers and storms are possible on Wednesday as a cold front gets closer to Virginia. The best chance for rain will be north of I-64 though a few storms can’t be ruled out elsewhere.

A few storms in the Highlands could become strong to severe with strong winds and large hail possible. There is an area-wide chance for severe storms on Thursday.

Temperatures will be near record highs on Wednesday as many areas head in the 90s. Areas east of the Blue Ridge will approach 100 during the afternoon.

Scattered showers and storms will stick around through Sunday with a few isolated showers possible on Monday, bringing much-needed rain to the region. Over the next week, anywhere from 0.5″ to 2″ is expected. Thunderstorms could bring locally higher amounts.

As rain chances increase and a cold front moves in, temperatures will decrease. Behind a second front on Tuesday, fall-like weather will return as temperatures are expected to remain in the 70s.
