    Sheriff charges shooting suspect with Malicious Wounding after barricade situation

    UPDATE 9/6 11:10 A.M. HENRY COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR ) – The Henry County Sheriff has announced an arrest has been made in connection to the shooting that injured a man on September 4.

    The sheriff said that around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, deputies arrived at a home on Irisburg Road to serve an arrest warrant for 37-year-old Raymond Dwayne Taylor from Axton.

    On the scene, the sheriff says that Taylor retreated into the home’s basement. Deputies continued their attempts to communicate, but Taylor allegedly did not acknowledge or comply with the deputies. Investigators then determined that Taylor barricaded himself and another person inside the home and was allegedly armed with a firearm.

    The Henry County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T team as well as the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Crisis and Hostage Negotiations Team was activated to respond and assist with the situation.

    After about an hour of making attempts, HCSO negotiators made contact with Taylor by phone at around 1:33 a.m. and successfully convinced him to surrender to deputies.

    Raymond Dwayne Taylor Jr. was taken into custody by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T team without further incident. He has been charged with the following:

    • Malicious Wounding
    • Use of Firearm Use in the Commission of a Felony
    • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

    Taylor Jr. is currently being held In the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.



    HENRY COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR ) – The Henry County Sheriff is looking for the suspect who allegedly shot a man during the evening of September 4.

    According to the sheriff, around 9:04 p.m. on Wednesday, 911 dispatch received a call from the SOVAH Health Hospital of Martinsville stating that a man arrived at the ER with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his right leg.

    The man was treated for his injury and then released.

    During the investigation, police learned that the victim was walking on Lakewood Trail, in the Laurel Park area of Henry County when another man allegedly approached him and started yelling, then took out a gun and shot him in the leg.

    Sheriff charges 2 men, 2 juveniles in connection to three crimes

    37-year-old Raymond Dwayne Taylor from Axton has allegedly been identified by investigators as a suspect and is currently on probation for unrelated offenses in Henry County.

    Raymond Dwayne Taylor Jr. is currently wanted on the following charges:

    • Malicious Wounding
    • Use of Firearm of Commission of a Felony
    • Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon

    The investigation is ongoing.
