Pinpoint Weather: Showers linger through the end of the week

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — An area of low pressure off the East Coast, along with high pressure over the northeastern United States, will keep rain chances in the forecast through the end of the week.

Patchy fog and areas of drizzle are possible for the Thursday morning commute through Southwest and Central Virginia. Otherwise, mostly cloudy skies will be overhead for the day. Scattered showers and isolated storms are possible, but not everyone will see rain. Afternoon highs will be in the 70s.

Rain chances will decrease for the end of the week. Isolated showers cannot be ruled out on Friday and Saturday. Otherwise, a mix of sun and clouds will be overhead. Afternoon temperatures will range from the upper 70s to the warmer mid-80s.

Fall officially arrives on Sunday, September 22 at 8:44 a.m. A mix of sun and clouds is anticipated for the end of the weekend. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 50s and lower 60s while afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s and lower/upper 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms will have the chance to return for the upcoming week. High pressure over the northeastern United States should wedge against the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge by Monday, increasing easterly flow off of the Atlantic Ocean. Plus, a cold front will develop across the central Plains and head eastward. It will be cloudier and cooler with highs in the 70s Monday through Wednesday.
