For much of Saturday, mostly to partly sunny skies will be overhead with afternoon temperatures reaching the lower and middle 80s. However, an upper-level disturbance will pass through during the afternoon and evening, resulting in showers and thunderstorms. Not everyone will see rain, but a few storms could pack a punch. Gusty winds and hail are the main storm concerns. Downpours could lead to localized flooding issues.

The shower and storm activity will wrap by midnight. Skies will become partly cloudy with temperatures falling into the 60s overnight. Patchy fog may develop and linger into Sunday morning.

Fall officially arrives on Sunday, September 22 at 8:44 a.m. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead with mostly dry weather conditions in place. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 50s and lower 60s while afternoon highs will be in the 80s.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will have the chance to return for the upcoming week. High pressure over the northeastern United States should wedge against the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge by Monday, increasing easterly flow off of the Atlantic Ocean. Plus, a cold front will develop across the central Plains and head eastward.

Cloudier and cooler conditions are expected across Southwest and Central Virginia for much of next week. Morning lows will be in the 50s and 60s while highs will be in the 70s.
