    WEATHER ALERT: Flood warnings continue throughout Southwest & Central Virginia

    UPDATE 10:29 A.M. VIRGINIA, Va. ( WFXR ) – The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of the Southwest region until between 5:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, September 27.

    Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Expect many areas of slow-moving or standing water. Widespread outages are expected. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive.

    ALERT: Tornado Watch continues in Southwest & Central Virginia

    Doppler radar indicated bands of moderate to heavy rain passing over the warned area. Flooding is ongoing in the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen since early this morning.

    Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area through dawn as rainfall intensifies overnight.

    Alleghany County, Amherst County, Bath County, Bedford County, Bland County, Botetourt County, Campbell County, Carroll County, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, City of Lynchburg, Craig County, Floyd County, Franklin County, Giles County, Western Greenbrier County, Grayson County, Henry County, Eastern Highland County, Western Highland County, Mercer County, Monroe County, Montgomery County, Patrick County, Pittsylvania County, Northwest Pocahontas County, Northwest Pocahontas County, Pulaski County, Roanoke County, Rockbridge County, Southeast Pocahontas County, Smyth County, Summers County, Tazewell County, Wythe County.

    VIRGINIA, Va. ( WFXR ) – As Hurricane Helene enters the region and heavy rain continues to be a threat, flood warnings and watches are still in effect through the evening and into Friday, September 27.

    Severe flood warnings and flash flooding alerts have been issued for most areas until about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 26. However, some areas may be affected until Friday evening.
    Counties and cities include:

    Alleghany County, Amherst County, Bath County, Bedford County, Bland County, Botetourt County, Campbell County, Carroll County, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, City of Lynchburg, Craig County, Floyd County, Franklin County, Giles County, Western Greenbrier County, Grayson County, Henry County, Eastern Highland County, Western Highland County, Mercer County, Monroe County, Montgomery County, Patrick County, Pittsylvania County, Northwest Pocahontas County, Northwest Pocahontas County, Pulaski County, Roanoke County, Rockbridge County, Southeast Pocahontas County, Smyth County, Summers County, Tazewell County, Wythe County.

    Pinpoint Weather: Helene to bring heavy rain, winds, and storms

    The National Weather Service warns that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

    You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Anyone living in flood prone areas should be prepared to act should in the event of an emergency.
