    Missing person found dead near Cave Spring High School, police say

    ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR ) – Roanoke County Police are investigating after a person was found dead near Cave Spring High School on October 8.

    Police said that on Tuesday, officers responded to an area near the high school. On the scene, a vehicle was found belonging to a person reported missing on Thursday, October 3.

    During a search of the area, the missing person, 57-year-old Carl Simmons of Roanoke County, was found deceased in a storm drain along the northern edge of the school’s parking lot. The cause of death is currently unknown.

    Mr. Simmons is not affiliated with Roanoke County Public Schools, police said. His body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for examination. Results are currently pending.

    The investigation is ongoing; however, Roanoke County PD does not currently believe there to be any suspicious circumstances or foul play involved in the incident. WFXR News will update this story with more information as it becomes available
