    Lynchburg barricade situation resolved, man charged with attempted murder

    UPDATE 10:44 P.M. UPDATE 10/25 6:22 P.M. LYNCHBURG, Va. ( WFXR ) – Lynchburg Police reports the man accused of firing a gun at Adult Protective Services workers during a welfare check on October 25 has been arrested.

    Around 3:47 p.m. on Friday, officers with Lynchburg Police (LPD) responded to the home on the 1900 block of Union Street after a man allegedly fired a gun at members of APS (APS) during a welfare check.

    Once on the scene, officers made multiple attempts to contact the man, who was later identified as 55-year-old Charles Rayburn Jr. of Lynchburg, after he barricaded himself inside the home.

    After entering the home, Rayburn was located and taken into custody without further incident.

    No injuries have currently been reported.

    Charles Rayburn Jr. has been arrested and charged with the following:

    • Attempted Murder
    • Reckless Handling of a Firearm
    • Discharge of a Firearm in the City Limits
    • Possession of a Firearm While Subject to Protective Order
    • Violation of a Protective Order

    UPDATE 10/25 6:22 P.M. LYNCHBURG, Va. ( WFXR ) – Lynchburg Police have released more information regarding the barricade situation on Union Street in Lynchburg.

    LPD said Adult Protective Services attempted to perform a welfare check on a woman at the home. During the welfare check, a man appeared from the backroom and allegedly threatened to shoot the APS workers.

    As the APS workers were exiting the home, the man then allegedly produced a gun and fired at them, according to police.

    Lynchburg Police then arrived on the scene and the man barricaded himself inside the home.

    The situation is still active and ongoing. Check back for more information soon.

    Details are limited, however, a suspect is barricaded inside a home. Police are attempting to resolve the situation.
