G.L. Vitale Family Foundation awards $115,000 to community organizations. Here are the recipients
The G.L. Vitale Family Foundation has awarded a total of $115,000 to three community organizations with varied ways to serve the Knox County community. The Galesburg Symphony Center will provide music instruction and more, the Knox County YMCA will put the donation toward a PlayZone, and CASA of West Central Illinois will continue its mission of helping abused and neglected children in the court system.

Hope Initiative could have two homes at least through start of 2025
The Hope Initiative will technically have two locations, at least for awhile. The relatively new local organization has been operating out of warehouse space at the Galesburg Rescue Mission, before the Benedict Family Foundation offered them the space in the just-purchased former Churchill Junior High School location they will open in starting in January.

CASA of West Central Illinois’ Executive Director, Kelly Radeke, has been selected by the National CASA/GAL Association to serve on its Rural Leadership Council. The purpose of the Rural Leadership Council is to advise and partner with National CASA/GAL on policies, resources, and strategies that impact rural programs, bring a voice to National CASA/GAL’s work on developing a network-wide growth process and strategy, and to conceptualize and develop support systems, tools, and communications specific to the needs of rural programs.

Illinois Commerce Commission approved deal to improve several Galesburg rail crossings. Here’s what will be done
The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved what they termed a “stipulated agreement” that will allow upgrades at a couple railroad crossings on the city’s south side. They approved the City of Galesburg installing automated train warning devices at crossings on both South Seminary Street, and South Chambers Street.

A Peoria-area man is now facing more federal trouble — this time, for how he financially handled the COVID-19 testing his company did. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Aaron Rossi, 40, of Morton has been indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges including healthcare fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud — all involving now-closed Reditus Labs out of Pekin.
Man, injured in shooting, arrested for murder
The Galesburg man who had been hospitalized since being injured in a fatal shooting almost two weeks ago is now in custody. Galesburg Police and Knox County Jail records both confirm Chase Houlden, Jr., 19, was booked into the Knox County Jail Tuesday after being released from a Peoria hospital.

Monmouth-Roseville has a new high school principal, a move that will force Galesburg District 205 to start the search for a new athletic director. Police looking for Kewanee man in connection with local homicide
Illinois State Police are looking for the region’s help in finding a so-called person of interest after a man ended up dead earlier this month. Troopers say James Reed III, 26, Kewanee, is wanted for questioning after a body was found inside a home June 8 – this, after Kewanee Police responded to the home in the 800 block of West Division St. in Kewanee for a welfare check.
