A popular barbecue restaurant that features slow-cooked meats and homemade sauces and sides is set to reopen in downtown Galesburg. Smokin’ Willies BBQ, which debuted at Fat Fish Pub before renting space at Cedar Creek event venue the last three years, now has a place to call home at 161 N. Cherry St. — the original Moose Lodge.
Galesburg man charged with murder to remain jailed
The Galesburg man accused of shooting and killing another man several weeks ago on the city’s south side will remain in jail until his court case is resolved. Knox County Court records indicate a judge Monday approved of a prosecution request, under the state’s Pretrial Fairness Act, to keep Chase Houlden, Jr., 19, in custody until his case is resolved.

Hope Initiative could have two homes at least through start of 2025
The Hope Initiative will technically have two locations, at least for awhile. The relatively new local organization has been operating out of warehouse space at the Galesburg Rescue Mission, before the Benedict Family Foundation offered them the space in the just-purchased former Churchill Junior High School location they will open in starting in January.

The Galesburg man who had been hospitalized since being injured in a fatal shooting almost two weeks ago is now in custody. Galesburg Police and Knox County Jail records both confirm Chase Houlden, Jr., 19, was booked into the Knox County Jail Tuesday after being released from a Peoria hospital.
