The O.C. Woodman School in Gardiner served as a High school until I believe 1964 when a new and current high school was built. My mom went to the Woodman School in the 1950s. When I attended the Woodman School 1972-74 it was the Jr. High school and at some point turned into the middle school. Then they built the current middle school. It is a shame that the Woodman School was torn down. The old creaking floors, the theater with the stage and balcony with the projection room. The stage had a lighting system that would remind you of the old movies where these big black levers you would move up and down to dim the stage lights and they would spark. Back then you dealt with using old buildings. Of course buildings back then were built much better and stood around for many many years. It is too bad that many old buildings are just torn down instead of upgrading them when they can but they think it's better to take them down and put up a building that will last maybe 30 years.
