    Girl, 9, critical after hit-and-run on Far South Side

    CHICAGO — A 9-year-old girl is in critical condition after a hit-and-run on the city’s Far South Side.

    The incident happened around 8:40 p.m. Thursday on the 9500 block of South Paxton Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood.

    Police said the girl was crossing the street with two other females when the driver of a silver SUV failed to stop at the red light and struck her.

    The girl was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

    CPD: 3-year-old boy abducted by mother on South Side

    No other injuries were reported. The driver fled the scene and is not in custody.

    The Major Accidents unit is investigating.
