CHICAGO – The Chicago Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection is trying to help new and future business owners succeed by hosting a series of expos.

A lot of hustle and bustle went on Saturday at Truman College, where one of the expos was held.

Aspiring business owners got a chance to hear all about life in the fast lane from those who’ve done it first, just like Anupy Singla, who was Saturday’s keynote speaker at the city’s small business expo.

“I’m speaking here today. I was asked to come in and talk to folks here, just otivating them in terms of being an entrepreneur, what that means, what some of the trials and tribulations are,” Singla said.

Singla runs her own successful company “Indian As Apple Pie” that helps people cook authentic Indian cuisine at home.

“I always think it’s really important for entrepreneurs to hear from other entrepreneurs to know that they’re not alone,” Singla said. “I think it’s also important for me to get out my kitchen because that’s what I do on a day-to-day basis, and really get out here, meet people, but also learn from the city and what the city has to offer.”

Chicago offers up expos like this several times a year, with all sorts of guides and advice for anyone who even just has an idea they want to bring to life.

“This is our way to bring those resources to the community,” said Ivan Capifali, acting commissioner for the Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection. “The City of Chciago has a wealth of information. We want to connect with you; we want to be a partner in your journey, so don’t be afraid to come in, ask those difficult questions and get those networks and connections today.”

If you missed out on Saturday’s event, not to worry! The city has lots of resources to help turn those dreams into reality.
