DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Decatur Police Department is investigating after a sculpted head of Abraham Lincoln, believed to be from a bust or statue, was found outside the Decatur Civic Center.

Police are considering the case to be an act of criminal damage.

The Department’s Criminal Investigations Division posted to its Facebook page photos and video showing an unknown person outside the Civic Center. The person walked up to the building carrying Lincoln’s head, then placed it on the ground and walked away.

Sergeant Brian Earles said the department is not sure where the sculpture was displayed, but given the head is made of plaster, it was likely displayed indoors. Officers have yet to locate Lincoln’s body, and they have not identified the person who dropped the head off.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the video, or who finds a bust or statue missing its head, is asked to contact the Investigation Division at 217-424-2734 or Macon County Crime Stoppers at 217-423-8477.
