CHICAGO — A Chicago Transit Employee was seriously wounded Tuesday night in a drive-by shooting near the Howard station in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Police said the 51-year-old man was outside on the 7500 block of North Paulina Street when someone traveling in a white SUV fired multiple shots towards the CTA employee and fled the scene at around 9:10 p.m.

The CTA employee, a switch worker, was shot in the chest and transported to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition.

“We’ve learned of yet another violent criminal act involving the use of a gun, this time injuring one of our own,” CTA President Dorval Carter said in a statement. “We are both saddened, and also in disbelief that we are once again having to address the topic of gun violence and public transit. CTA will make support services and resources available to employees affected by this latest event.”

No one was in custody by Wednesday evening. Area Three Detectives said their investigation continues.
