    Body found of missing grandmother with dementia last seen on Southwest Side

    CHICAGO — The body of a missing grandmother with dementia who disappeared over Labor Day weekend has been found, family members confirmed Wednesday.

    Francisca Renteria, 85, was last seen Sunday near a relative’s home on the city’s Southwest Side. Renteria’s granddaughter, Karina Juarez, told WGN News Tuesday that a family member had accidentally fallen asleep when she walked out the front door around 1 pm. Sunday, Sept. 1.

    On Wednesday, she took to Facebook to confirm the unfortunate news.

    “Hi everyone, we are sad to inform everyone my grandmother was found,” Juarez wrote on Facebook. “She is no longer with us. I appreciate everyone for all their help finding her. My family really appreciated every single one of you.”

    Renteria had recently arrived in the city from Mexico two months ago.

    Police did not release a cause of death.
