SKOKIE, Ill. — A death investigation was launched Thursday after the body of an adult man was found in the North Shore Channel adjacent to Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park.

First responders including Skokie police and fire, Evanston police, state authorities and a medical examiner were called to the park on the 8600 block of North McCormick Boulevard around 7 a.m. Authorities canvassed the area and taped off a portion of the park from the public.

By midday, the body, identified Friday as Roland Gross, 45, of Chicago was carried away on a stretcher.

ISP said their investigation was ongoing.

Body is not Tsering Dolma Wangyal, missing since July 15

Tenzin Wangyal said her heart skipped a beat and sank when she heard of a body being discovered in the park. Her mother, 82-year-old Tsering Wangyal, better known by her middle name of Dolma, has been missing nearly eight weeks, last seen at the Levy Senior Center in Evanston on July 15.

“People were concerned, and I was concerned, like what’s going on, and later on the detective working our case with the Skokie Police Department confirmed it’s not related, it’s not my mom,” Tenzin Wangyal told WGN.

The Wangyal family plans to host a candlelight vigil the evening of Monday, September 9 at the Levy Senior Center.

Anyone with information on Dolma’s whereabouts is asked to reach out to police.
