    Body of Illinois diver who went missing while exploring Lake Michigan shipwreck recovered

    KENOSHA COUNTY, Wisc. — The body of a scuba diver who went missing while exploring a shipwreck in Lake Michigan was recovered Wednesday , the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department announced.

    According to deputies, at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the Coast Guard received a notification from a vessel on Lake Michigan about a scuba diver who had gone underwater but did not return to the surface and was in need of assistance.

    According to the sheriff’s department, the search soon became a recovery operation due to the amount of time that the diver had been missing.

    Around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday body of the diver was recovered. He has been identified as 72-year-old Patrick Kelly of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, the sheriff’s office said.

    Kenosha County and deputies said the shipwreck was located off the coastline of Pleasant Prairie Wisconsin, about six miles out in water that is over 100ft deep.

    In addition to the Coast Guard, rescue agencies from Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee,
    Walworth, Lake County, McHenry County and Cook County in Illinois and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources assisted in the efforts.
