NEW YORK (WGN) — The Chicago Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for week 1 of the NFL Season, according to a press release from the league offices Wednesday.

Stevenson recorded a 43-yard interception-return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Chicago’s 24-17 comeback victory over Tennessee, which ended up being the winning score. It marked the longest defensive touchdown in the league in Week 1.

Stevenson also added four tackles in the win.

This is the second-career Defensive Player of the Week Award for Stevenson, who also earned the honor in Week 17 of the 2023 season as a rookie.

“He loves competition. He’s very competitive. He’s a physical corner,” said head coach Matt Eberflus Wednesday. “You can see how fiery he is out on the field. He just welcomes that.”

Stevenson became the fourth Chicago defensive back to earn the honor multiple times, joining Charles Tillman (three-time winner), Mike Brown (two) and Eddie Jackson (two).

The Chicago Bears travel to Houston to play the Texans in Week 2 on ESPN’s Sunday Night Football. Game time is set for 7:20 p.m. CT.
