    Chicago police investigate string of armed robberies on Southwest Side; 1 arrested

    CHICAGO — Chicago police are investigating a string of armed robberies that occurred on the city’s Southwest Side early Thursday morning.

    Authorities have confirmed at least one person was taken into custody.

    The first incident happened around 1:07 a.m. Thursday in the 4900 block of South Western Avenue. Police said a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were outside when a gray colored SUV approached.

    Two unknown armed suspects exited the vehicle and demanded property from the victims. The two suspects took their personal property and returned to the SUV.

    According to police, one of the suspects then fired shots towards the victims. No one was injured.

    A second incident happened around 1:40 a.m. in the 3300 block of West 59th Place. Police said a 17-year-old boy was inside a vehicle when a black colored SUV approached.

    Officials said two unknown armed suspects exited the vehicle and demanded property, forcing the victim into a residence where they took personal property before fleeing in the SUV.

    The third incident happened just after 2 a.m. in the 1300 block of West 47th Street. Police said a 42-year-old man was inside of a vehicle when a gray colored truck approached.

    Two unknown armed suspects exited the vehicle and demanded property. The suspects removed personal property from the victim, before fleeing the scene in the SUV in an unknown direction.

    According to police, officers responded around 2:34 a.m. to a similar incident in the 3600 block of West 38th Street inside of a rail yard. Police said a 42-year-old man was inside of a commercial truck when a suspect approached on foot and forcefully took the vehicle.

    Officials said the offender eventually exited the vehicle, at which time he was placed into custody without further incident.

    The victim received lacerations to his body and was tranported to St. Anthony’s Hosptial where he is listed in good condition.

    Charges are pending at this time.

    Police have not confirmed that these incidents are connected.
