    Crash along Edens Expressway causes closures, significant backups during rush hour

    CHICAGO — A multi-vehicle crash along the Edens Expressway caused closures and backups during rush hour on Friday afternoon.

    According to Illinois State Police, the three-car crash unfolded around 3:10 p.m. and also caused a diesel spill from a semi-trailer, leading to road closures in both directions.

    Troopers said they believe the semi-trailer caused a rear-end chain reaction crash, which caused diesel to spill from the semi.

    A HAZMAT team was then called to the scene to conduct a cleanup.

    WGN SkyCam 9 was over the scene at around 4 p.m. when several emergency vehicles could be spotted on the scene and one of the vehicles, a heavily damaged silver SUV, appeared to have crashed into the impact attenuator.

    The crash led to closures in both directions. but all lanes have since reopened.

    According to troopers, two of the drivers involved were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
