4 people, including 13-year-old girl, injured in Back of the Yards shooting

CHICAGO — Four people, including a child, were shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side on Monday night.

The shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. at a dance studio in the 1500 block of West 51st Street, near the intersection with Ashland Avenue.

Sources say ShotSpotter picked up 22 rounds fired in that area right around the time of the shooting.

Chicago police said when officers arrived at the scene, they found the victims inside the studio. The victims said they were inside at a Zumba class when they heard multiple gunshots and then the windows breaking.

According to police, a 48-year-old woman was shot in the upper left arm and taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition; a 57-year-old woman was shot in the middle finger of her right hand and taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition; a 13-year-old girl was shot in the lower back and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in fair condition; and a 29-year-old man was shot in the back of the neck and taken to the University of Chicago Hospital initially in critical condition, but he’s now in good condition, CPD says.

No arrests have been made, and Area One Detectives are investigating.
