    Felony charges filed against man accused of pointing gun at CPD officers

    CHICAGO — A Chicago man accused of pointing a gun at CPD officers who were responding to a call on the South Side is now facing a handful of felony charges.

    Chicago police said 31-year-old Rakim Kendall, a West Englewood resident, has been charged with five felony counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a loaded weapon without a FOID card and one felony count of cannabis possession.

    According to police, the charges were handed down following an incident that allegedly unfolded on Monday night in the 7100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, in South Shore, while officers were responding to a gun call in the area.

    31-year-old Rakim Kendall, a West Englewood resident, has been charged with five felony counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a loaded weapon without a FOID card and one felony count of cannabis possession.

    Officers responded around 10 p.m. and once on the scene, police say Kendall allegedly pointed a gun at the officers. Officers opened fire on Kendall but said nobody was struck by the gunfire.

    Authorities located Kenall a little over 30 minutes later, in the 7100 block of South Cyril Avenue, less than two blocks away from where the alleged incident unfolded, and he was taken into custody.

    Kendall appeared in court on Wednesday for a detention hearing.

    Officers said following Kendall’s arrest, a gun was recovered from the scene.

    if the CPD Officers fired at the offender and no one was wounded, where did the bullets end up? Spray and pray is dangerous to bystanders.
