CHICAGO — A woman is dead following a shooting late Thursday afternoon in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood.

A person of interest is in custody, Chicago police officials confirmed with WGN News. The update comes one day after police said the alleged shooter, believed to be a 17-year-old male, ran away from the scene.

CPD would not confirm the person of interest’s age or whether they were related to the victim.

Just before 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 6800 block of S. Cornell Avenue. Police say that moments earlier, a 43-year-old woman inside a residence was shot and killed by the 17-year-old.
