    Man stabbed on Orange Line train downtown

    CHICAGO — A man was stabbed and seriously wounded early Friday morning aboard a Chicago Transit Authority Orange Line train, authorities said.

    According to police, a 32-year-old man was on the train when two men approached him, took out a “cutting instrument” and stabbed him in the left side at around 4:30 a.m. at Washington Street and Wells Street.

    The offenders exited the train and fled in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

    No one is in custody. Area Three Detectives are investigating.

    Train service resumed after several hours of delay due to the investigation.

    According to an analysis of city data, there were more than 1,200 reports of assault or battery on CTA property this year through the end of August. There were 355 reports of robbery which sometimes also involved a knife, according to the data.
