8 injured in crash involving van on South Side

CHICAGO — A crash involving a multi-passenger van on the city’s South Side left at least eight people injured on Thursday afternoon.

Officials from the Chicago Fire Department said the crash unfolded near East 98th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue, in Pullman, and appeared to have involved only one vehicle.

WGN’s SkyCam 9 was over the scene around 4:30 p.m. when the van, which appeared to have crashed into a tree in the area, could be seen surrounded by emergency personnel.

At least five ambulances and two firetrucks could also be seen from overhead following the incident.

According to CFD, eight people were taken to the hospital following the crash and three of them were listed in critical condition.

Authorities have not provided details on how many people were on board the van at the time of the incident, and it is currently unclear what led to the crash.
