Crash along I-90 in Schaumburg leads to lane closures

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — A crash along Interstate 90 in the northwest suburbs caused some lane closures during rush hour on Thursday afternoon.

The crash involved an SUV and a semi-trailer truck and unfolded in the eastbound lanes of I-90, near Barrington Road, in Schaumburg, just before 4:45 p.m., Illinois State Police (ISP) said.

According to troopers, the semi-trailer truck was parked along the shoulder of the road when a gray Chevrolet SUV struck the trailer from behind.

SkyCam 9 was over the scene at around 5:15 p.m. when emergency crews could be seen blocking off some of the eastbound lanes while working to clear the scene.

From overhead, the heavily damaged SUV could be seen positioned behind the semi, which appeared to have suffered little damage in the crash.

Troopers said the driver of the SUV was injured in the crash and was later taken to the hospital.

Because of the incident, crews closed the two right eastbound lanes of I-90. At least one lane and the shoulder remained open to allow for traffic to flow through.

It is currently unclear what led to the crash and authorities said an investigation is underway.
