HAZEL CREST, Ill. – The Hazel Crest Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the drivers and/or vehicles responsible for a deadly hit-and-run crash back in August, while the victim’s family is offering a $5,000 reward.

Police said on Aug. 1 at around 11:20 p.m., officers were sent to the area of 173rd and Kedzie to investigate reports of a car vs. pedestrian crash. Witnesses told dispatchers the vehicle involved appeared to be a white SUV that did not stop and continued northbound on Kedzie after hitting the victim.

The witnesses also said the victim was hit a second time by a black sedan also traveling northbound on Kedzie that did not stop after the impact.

When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive woman – identified as Tamia Costello – lying in the northbound lanes of Kedzie. Officers and witnesses rendered aid until paramedics arrived and took Costello to South Suburban Hospital.

Police said Costello died from her injuries three days later.

Over the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Costello was initially hit by a 2015 or newer Nissan Rogue that was white or silver in color. As she lied in the street, witnesses tried to stop northbound traffic, but a black sedan of an unknown make and model ignored their signals and hit Costello again, according to investigators.

Police have since released two pictures of the Nissan Rogue that reportedly hit Costello.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hazel Crest Police Department Detective Division at 708-335-9640.

Costello’s family is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest/conviction.

So she was in the street or were the cars on the sidewalk?

Please, anyone, with information from that night, reach out to police. this sad tragedy has put so much anguish on the family, having to plan a funeral around dropping another kid off at college with heavy hearts because their loved one was struck down not once but twice and left in the road suffering with horrendous injuries. If you know anything, please help this brokenhearted mother get justice for her child. The victim was a beautiful person who had become an entrepreneur at the age of 12 and was just making a mark for herself, excited to see where her next adventure would take her and helping others to see their dreams before her life was taken.
