    Fourth arrest made in deadly 2021 Halloween shooting in Joliet

    JOLIET, Ill. — Joliet police on Thursday announced a fourth arrest in connection with a deadly 2021 Halloween shooting that claimed the lives of three people and left several more injured.

    Will County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service apprehended 23-year-old David Grijalva of Joliet on Wednesday, Oct. 3 for his alleged involvement in Oct. 31, 2021 shooting. Grijalva faces twelve counts of first-degree murder, five counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

    In January 2022, the Will County Sheriff’s Office announced first-degree murder charges for Jeremy Lopez, Thomas Lopez and Joskar S. Ramos in connection with the shooting.

    It was in the early morning hours of Oct. 31, 2021 that police say a crowded Halloween party in the area of Jackson Street and Walnut Street in Joliet Township ended in gunfire. According to police, the alleged shooters stood from an elevated position over the crowd and began firing.

    Holly Mathews and Jonathan Ceballos, both 22 years old, died in the shooting. Authorities said they were innocent bystanders.

    The intended target, Sergio Hernandez, was paralyzed in the shooting and later succumbed to his injuries, resulting in upgraded murder charges for all accused.
